The Optimus Robot

Tesla is a popular automotive company. Recently, the shift in automotive demand has caused the company to direct its manufacturing to robots powered by artificial intelligence.

Over the past several years, the sales of Tesla automobiles have skyrocketed. Especially in the Bay Area, the number of households that own a Tesla has increased. Electric cars reduce the amount of carbon emissions emitted during transportation compared to a traditional fuel-burning car. Electric cars do not include a motor and rely on charging to replenish their fuel supply. Companies such as Tesla have created a surplus of electric cars, providing for the many households that are looking for a sustainable car.

The Bay Area contains two Tesla factories: one in San Francisco and Fremont. The Fremont Tesla factory manufactures most of the Tesla models. Over the past few years, the production of Teslas from the Fremont factory has increased, but the rate of purchases has declined significantly. Many Teslas have resided in local parking lots such as the BART, the public transportation system, and other locations. The net income of Tesla has dropped about 61% since the pandemic, according to ABC7News. Because of this, Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla, has announced that the Fremont Tesla Factory would no longer produce automobiles. Instead, the factory will start production of an Optimus robot.

The Tesla Optimus robot is a programmed figure that is designed to perform hazardous and repetitive tasks. Tesla Optimus was announced in August 2021 and is expected to be released by the end of 2027. It uses the same AI system that controlled Tesla’s self-driving cars. The production of the Optimus robot raises a lot of concerns and questions for the future. Will robots work alongside humans? What are the possibilities that these figures replace jobs? Are robots the next step to implement further AI into our lives? There is no definite answer to the outcome of this creation. However, it looks like the future contains more uses of AI and advanced technology that will provide further efficiency to our lives.
