Ohlone Clubs for Alsion Students

By: Katherine Lamont

With the start of the new school year, now is the perfect time to figure out which of Ohlone’s clubs appeals to you best. Clubs are a great way to engage with our community, broaden your perspective, and make meaningful connections that will serve you for years. So, let’s introduce you to some of Ohlone’s clubs!

Ohlone’s ASL Club is no small group. Here in Fremont, we have a very significant deaf and hard of hearing community, and Ohlone likewise boasts one of the most acclaimed deaf studies programs in California. If you have an interest in deaf studies or adding some ASL to your vocabulary, this may be the place for you! For more, check out @ohloneaslclub on Instagram.

The Game Development Club may be appealing to more tech-savvy students, whether you’re planning on going into game development yourself or just have a casual interest. This club focuses on both physical and digital games, so no matter which you prefer, the Game Dev club will have something for you! They can be found at https://www.facebook.com/OhloneGDC

The Psychology Club has been popular with Alsion students for years. Whether you’ve taken a class from Ohlone’s team of qualified psych professors or not, you’re sure to find this club interesting. This club is truly the place for participating in engaging discussions and furthering your understanding of the human mind. Contact advisor Professor Sheldon Helms for more details!

The Alsion-run Civic Engagement Club, composed of a number of both Alsion and Ohlone students, focuses on interacting and aiding our local community. In addition, the Civic Engagement Club devotes time to raising funds, volunteering, and spreading awareness for various issues which affect us all. Visit @ohlonecec on Instagram or contact Club President Ayush Hindocha if this sounds like the place for you!

Also popular among Alsion students, the Scientific Research Journal Club (SRJC) is your pathway to entering the wide world of scientific research. Club members engage in frequent discussions concerning new research topics that you may have otherwise never thought of. The SRJC is the “next-best-thing to hands-on research for STEM majors”, and if that interests you, check out @ohlone.srjc on Instagram!
