Local Hiking Trails in Fremont

By: Mathew Manseau
Living in Fremont has many benefits, one of which is being able to experience fantastic hiking trails. I will be talking about the best ones in Fremont or very close to Fremont.
Fremont has a lot of different hiking trails, but my favorite one is Vargas Plateau.
Vargas Plateau has a variety of trails you can go through, all of them being enjoyable. Vargas Plateau contains mostly flat trails, with a few exceptions. At certain parts of the trail, you can see all across the Bay and look at vast, lush fields. I have also gone to Vargas Plateau numerous times to see comets, rocket launches, and planetary alignments. It’s the perfect place for sightseeing, especially with how quiet it is.

Mission Peak is excellent, but a lot more challenging than Vargas Plateau. There’s also has a lot more variety. From desolate areas that have a lot of vegetation to long dirt paths, Mission Peak has everything. There is an intensive hike that takes around 5 hours to reach the peak and back. If that sounds like too much time, then there are also lighter, shorter, and scenic trails that take 20-40 minutes.

Coyote Hills is a mix of Mission Peak and Vargas Plateau; it can be really difficult at times, or a straight, flat path. It is very scenic and has many nice bodies of water, and the land has many animals to look at. Coyote Hills also doubles really well as a trail to go biking on.
