A Franchise-Making Night

By the Editorial Staff

On May 10, 2019, back from a one-year hiatus, the Alsion Coffeehouse charged the school with a fun frisson of songs and poetry.  Akash Sethi, a junior, emceed a night that could have been cacophonous–after all, it had decrepit cheese, unexpected raunchiness, a not-so-hostile takeover of a performance, Spanish madness–but was really all entertainment, talent and even beauty.  May next year’s Coffeehouse be as classic as this one was.

The performances:

  • Ms. Jennifer with rap assist from Akash Sethi, “Garden Poems”
  • Jessica Anthony and Lauren Chang, a cut of “You Happened” from The Prom
  • Jessica Anthony, “Sexy and I Know It,” acoustic cover by Noah Guthrie
  • Isa Eugenio, Kimia Faroughi, Akash Sethi and, suddenly, Evan Padiyil, “Hooked on a Feeling” by Blue Swede
  • Pallavi Bollapragada, Isa Eugenio, Kimia Faroughi, Tejas Raghuram and Akash Sethi, “Hoy es Domingo”
  • Alex Zhou, “Arabesque” by Claude Debussy
  • 9th Graders, “Un Poco Loco”
  • Ananda Guha and Vincent Huang, “Love’s Sorrow” by Fritz Kreisler
  • Pallavi Bollapragada and Anusha Sharangpani, “Franchise Belted Seal” and “Moldy Cheese”
  • The EC Band [Pallavi Bollapragada, Ram Charan, Kimia Faroughi, Evan Padiyil, Sahus Nulu, Tejas Raghuram and Mr. Go], “I Want to Break Free” by Queen and “My City of Ruins” by Bruce Springsteen
