Alsion’s Cards for Kids Club

By: Jasmin Sangha
Cards for Kids is the perfect opportunity to create meaningful art and spend time with peers. The cards created and money earned through fundraisers are sent to children’s hospitals and make a positive impact on children who face difficult experiences.
Cards for Kids is the most recent addition to Alsion’s community and focuses on a simple mission: handmaking cards for hospitalized children. I started the club at my old school because of the overwhelming loneliness children faced in hospitals. I wanted to continue our mission and make an impact in hospitals, so, with the help of a couple of friends, I continued the club in our school.
The main purpose of Cards for Kids is to brighten the day of children in hospitals who are going through isolating or difficult experiences. Through colorful images and thoughtful messages, each card is meant to remind children that they are supported and not alone. In addition to making cards, we host bake sales in order to raise money for children’s hospitals and support parents who may struggle financially due to the cost of healthcare. We are donating the money made from bake sales to UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital and sending the cards to Cards for Hospitalized Kids (CFHK) and Letters of love which distribute them. These small steps help make a big impact in families’ lives.
The Cards for Kids Club meets every other week on Thursdays, and hosts bake sales on Wednesdays the weeks we don’t meet for club. The bake sales run from 12:00-12:25 pm, and the club meets from 3:00-4:00 pm. In the meetings, we make cards together and answer any questions people may have. Please feel free to contact Jasmin, Lily, Mady or Haasi if you have any further questions or are interested in joining the club!
