Due to Alsion’s small community and scenic location, the school has some fun and interesting PE experiences!

One distinctive aspect of PE at Alsion is the size of the sports teams. With a smaller student population, sports like basketball and volleyball often feature teams with around eight players per side. This smaller scale leads to a more dynamic and fast-paced game, allowing for greater involvement and engagement from every player.

For Middle School students, PE typically revolves around a single sport for about five weeks, although this duration may extend depending on student interest. In contrast, the Early College program takes a more educational approach, offering a variety of sports that each usually last for four weeks. This allows for students to gain in-depth insights for each activity.

PE sessions usually last 40 minutes and begin with a 10-minute warm-up that includes stretches, light running, and exercises. This preparation is essential for helping students gear up for the activities ahead while minimizing the risk of injury.

For instance, the 10th graders recently started with wiffleball, a fun twist on baseball. When the heat intensified, they shifted gears to yoga to stay cool. The following day, the weather was more favorable for a hike. After a refreshing break, they returned to indoor activities with table tennis before transitioning back to wiffleball. Now, they’re gearing up for volleyball, which will likely be the focus for the next few weeks.

Overall, PE at Alsion not only emphasizes physical fitness but also promotes flexibility, creativity, and teamwork in an inviting outdoor setting. The more student-centered approach, which allows students to have a role in choosing their PE curriculum, encourages everyone to stay active and have fun!
