Pumpkin Spice, Fall is Nice!

Cringe name aside—I love all things pumpkin! In fact, I think pumpkin-flavored items might be one of my favorite parts of fall. There’s pumpkin bread, pumpkin pie, pumpkin spice lattes, etc. What we don’t hear about a lot, however, is pumpkin hot chocolate…which is a tragedy because it’s the perfect hot chocolate for the fall, giving you a fuzzy, cold day feeling with the pumpkin reminding you that it’s not just winter. Anyways, here’s my go-to way for making this incredible drink!

Ingredients:

  • Pumpkin puree
  • Cinnamon
  • Milk (any type)
  • Cocoa powder
  • Granulated sugar (any type)
  • Heavy whipping cream
  • Vanilla extract (any type)

Process:

  1. Heat your milk on medium heat until it begins to simmer
    1. Stir in your cocoa powder until you reach the desired level of “chocolatiness”
    2. Stir in your sugar (to taste)
    3. Stir in a few tablespoons of pumpkin puree and make sure that it’s mixed in completely (to taste)
  2. While your milk is heating, pour ¼ to ½ cup of heavy whipping cream into a mixing bowl
    1. Add in a teaspoon of vanilla extra and a few teaspoons of sugar (to taste)
    2. Whip your cream until it reaches soft peaks
    3. Add in a few spoonfuls of pumpkin puree and whip until it is fully incorporated (be sure not to over whip the cream—it could curdle)
  3. Pour your hot chocolate into a glass, add the whipped cream on top, and sprinkle with cinnamon
  4. Enjoy!
