Witherly Heights Reviews: The Ohlone Dining Hall

By Anya Patri

Ohlone has recently added a dining hall on campus! In this article, I review the food and overall vibe of this new addition to the Fremont campus.

An exciting new addition to the Ohlone Campus this semester has been the dining hall, located on the second floor of building five. As someone who is on campus a lot during lunch periods, I was really excited to try out some of their offered meals and see how good the food was. Before reviewing it, however, I would like to add that I think it was a great idea to have this resource on campus for people who might not be able to leave between classes or who haven’t brought food themselves. It is very convenient and easy to find, as it’s located in a central area, and it’s had a great impact on the campus so far.

One of the positive aspects of the dining hall is the number of people who are making use of it. When you enter the floor during the lunch period, there are always a large number of students who are sitting at the tables, studying while eating, standing in line, or waiting for their food. This is definitely indicative of the dining hall quickly becoming a great place to go on campus, and its impact on the Ohlone population. All of the staff are also really kind and easy to talk to, and they definitely are a huge plus for the environment of the dining hall.

In terms of food, I really enjoyed the burgers and fries that are offered every day. As a vegetarian, I was pleased to see a large number of non-meat options available. The veggie burgers are delicious and the waffle fries are probably my favorite thing served at the dining hall. While they are a bit on the pricey side, cafeteria food is often slightly overpriced so I don’t think it’s outrageous at all. They also offer specials, which are a bit hit or miss. For example, the Lo Mein was made with spaghetti instead of typical noodles, which tasted a bit strange, but the spring rolls and fried rice were delicious.

There are also a lot of snacks available in the dining hall area, including drinks, chips, cookies, sandwiches, and salad. I actually really appreciate the amount of options they have, and if the vending machines are out of your favorite snacks, the dining hall probably is stocked up on them. They are quite easy to purchase along with your food, and I always end up getting something whenever I eat lunch there.

Overall, the Ohlone Dining Hall is a welcome addition to the campus community, providing students and faculty with a convenient and enjoyable dining experience. The variety of food options available, including vegetarian choices, is a definite plus, and the atmosphere of the dining hall is both inviting and conducive to socializing or studying. While some of the specials may be hit or miss, the regular menu items are consistently tasty and satisfying. All in all, the Ohlone Dining Hall is definitely worth checking out for anyone in need of a quick and delicious meal on campus.
