The Wolves Directorial Interview

By: Katherine Lamont

Sarah DeLappe’s Pulitzer-finalist “The Wolves” is a story of youth, drama, and life. Now, in just three days, the Ohlone College Entertainment Arts Guild’s production of “The Wolves” will hit the stage. Today we sat down with the show’s director Frankie Jensen to discuss the production and the work that has gone into it.

“Describe The Wolves in one sentence.”

A microscope slide into the lives of 9 teenage girls warming up for their weekly soccer games, but all the while finding themselves, and their place in the world.

“What drew you into directing theatre?”

In high school, I assistant directed my school’s fall play, and I fell in love. Ever since then, I’ve been dying to direct my own show, and now that I am it doesn’t feel real! I love blocking scenes, creating pictures with actors onstage, and bringing to life plays like “The Wolves” and experiencing the human condition through the lense of other people’s lives.

“What inspired you to choose this show?”

This show is the only show I’ve come across where I feel like teenage girls are accurately represented. Teenage girls aren’t fragile, gossipy, sex objects; they are strong, loud, athletic power houses that deserve a spot at the table. This show gives us a raw representation of teenage girls that feels real, and I think that’s something important for people to see.

“Without any major spoilers, do you have a favorite part of the show?”

My favorite part has to be the very beginning of the show. In order to avoid spoilers, I’ll just say that the first scene really bring us in and invites us to be a part of these girls lives, and is so enthralling that I feel like i’m on the field with them.

“Is there anything else you would like to tell the audience?”

Get excited! Get tickets! I can’t wait to share this show with our community, and for everyone to see our amazing production! It’s one you don’t want to miss.

“The Wolves” premieres this Thursday, March 16th at 8pm. Tickets are available at the door for $15 starting an hour before showtime. For more information, view the attached flyer.
